DEBENHAM 2002

A great event and our first opportunity to test out the new robot for series 6...LAMBSY ARMED & DANGEROUS !

Many of the top names attended, and we had an opportunity to battle with some.

Our first opponent was Vader, an excellent robot that unfortunately had to have their spinning weapon removed for safety reasons. I'm sure they will do well in Robot wars when they are allowed to fight fully armed. The battle didn't last too long as unfortunately I had hurriedly put the robot together the day before and didn't tighten up the battery terminals correctly. The lead fell off after the second hit, and we were immobilized.

After that we fought Prizephita2. Another chance to test the reliability of our new bot. It was very twitchy on the steering and I was struggling for control. They were much more agile and powerful, and flipped us all over the arena.

2 fights : 2 losses

OK so we had a chance in our third and final fight. Some novice called Ian Watts fancied his chances with a robot called Bigger Brother !

Needless to say a hat-trick of defeats was all we had to come away with.

The Kids enjoyed it though !

Once we got the robot home it soon became clear what our main problem was. We had re-geared our wheelchair motors for speed (18mph) but now had no torque. Even the arena side wall was enough to stop us moving left or right...we had no pushing power whatsoever. The electronics were also set up so that the acceleration and deceleration were not too responsive. This all added to a great lack of control.

Still...... We learnt an awful lot. The shell stood up to a heck of a lot of hammering. No damage worthy of a mention. All we need are some decent motors and a Gyro !

A phone call to Paul at the robot supplies store is what's needed. Technobots on-line store here we come !
