MICROBOTICS 2002

The event took place on Saturday 18th May at Wigmore near Gillingham. It was part of Rex's robot challenge. So most of the robots taking part were lightweights.

Alan Gribble was there with Stu from www.robotwarsmad.co.uk It was their first outing with a new lightweight Katnip which performed very well coming second overall in their section of the lightweight competition.

Stu did very well controlling Kastnip despite the initial nerves, and went on to win in the battle section of the competition. Landing a nice cheque for £50

Great control by Katnip shortly before crushing the ball with those pincers, and sticking it in the back of the net. www.teamkat.co.uk

There were a number of good lightweights, a selection are shown in the picture below

Boltfromtheblue, Alien8or, Ruffstuff, RC2, & Cheater all competed.

There was a second room containing the antweights. The Heavyweights had a little push around in the playground.  It was our first outing with our new Bosch motors and they worked very well pushing a few of the others around. We managed to flip Onslaught, but they got their own back shortly afterwards as they flipped us and immobilised us due to a battery lead coming off as we turned over. M2, Tornado, and Toecutter were amongst some of the other heavyweights that attended.

Ed from the Storm Team had fun with his lightweight crushing our lamb

We eventually had to retire as a circlip came loose and allowed all of our left-hand-side drive system to drift across into the wheel. This caused the chains to come off and I wasn't able to repair the damage on site. It wasn't too bad though!

Chains and gears lay in a heap following our loss of circlip

One wheel on our Lambsy, but were still rollin along !

An enjoyable day, and a lot learnt once again. The drive will be easy to fix, battery leads tightened up and secured, then fit the Gyro and see if we can improve our driving.
